Welcome to Bagdad Library!

Hello! My name is Sandy Karas, and I am very excited to be the new librarian here at Bagdad Elementary! I'm looking forward to a wonderful year of fun, learning, and of course READING!

Let me first start by giving you a little information about myself.  I received my degree in Elementary Education from the University of Texas here in Austin.  I also have a specialization in Reading, and a master's degree in Library Science from the University of North Texas.  I have been teaching in the Leander School District since 1994, and have enjoyed every minute of it!  This will be my sixth year as the Librarian at Bagdad Elementary, and I’m excited about all the new things we will do this year!

I have two additional family members:  my husband Kurt and Scooter.  Scooter is my rambunctious, little cat who spends her day napping until I get home.  My whole family (my mom, dad, and my older sister) live close by in Austin.

If you are interested in volunteering, then you’ve come to the right place!  Our library is always busy, and there are many ways you can help!   Feel free to call me or just stop by if you have some free time.

I'm excited to start this year, and I look forward to meeting and working with you and your child!  If you have any questions, I welcome your email at
